Symbols - What does heaven look like
High heeled shoes
Why do women wear high heeled shoes? According to one male friend of mine it is because men like to see them in high heeled shoes, as it tightens their buttocks and firms their calf muscles and thighs. So there you go - the male view.
And well it might, but I think women wear high heeled shoes for a different reason that they themselves are only subconsciously aware of.
If you turn to the section on the Geisha, you will find that the Geisha wore a different sort of shoes called sky walkers or cloud walkers, which were a badge of office signifying that you could go out of body. There is an observation about Shinto and kagura that you can turn to for an example.
I will now use a quote which I think is helpful
The Mystical Life - J H M Whiteman
Many customs or fashions in this physical world seem to have been prompted by an unconscious striving to model oneself on or suggest conditions in the higher spiritual spheres and the pulsingly vital beauty there. Thus it seems to me that women's hair-styles are often the result of unconscious attempts to imitate the astonishing beauty of hair of feminine 'angels'in higher spheres.
A liking to wear high-heeled shoes may arise partly from a slight realization of the
joy of movement in the exceedingly light-weight feminine 'angelic form', with the heels naturally and effortlessly raised from the ground when one moves at all quickly. The spiritual acceptability of that posture would override any physical discomfort.
All such things are the expression of Divine Life, and hence stir the heart indescribably. In the same way, the wearing of nylon stockings seems to me to bear some relation to the beauty of (spiritual) skin on angelic forms and to its colour, which is sometimes of an astonishing glowing or amber-like tinge. A liking to get the physical body suntanned may also have the same kind of origin.
Imitations of this kind can, of course, be overdone, so that the substance of spirit is displaced by fixation on corporeal appearances.
But in moderation they seem to me to serve a very useful purpose.
So there you go. See also amber and honey for support for his theory.
