Symbols - What does heaven look like
Ferris wheel
The symbolism of the Ferris wheel is that of the Wheel, the cycles of life and evolution. Their use can be traced back to at least the 1600s.
It is most closely tied to the symbolism of the wheel of change as opposed to, for example, the signs of the zodiac, as there is movement round and round and the idea you can’t get off!
In effect, at the paybox entrance [the spirit world] you get on the wheel of life and are taken round until the ride ends [you die] and are disgorged back into the spirit world [the exit!].
And of course it can be a bit scary, with ups and downs, so another link with the wheel of fortune.
