Symbols - What does heaven look like
Oars
Oars in a boat indicate that the person is deliberately navigating and steering his or her boat, deciding its course but perhaps more importantly, they are putting effort into progressing along the course.
Thus symbolically they are propelling themselves along the spiritual path by simple hard work. They are doing it without ‘sails’, without the benefit of wind. So they are having to work very hard to progress along the path because instead of getting inspiration from spiritual experience or wisdom from the same source, - see Types of Spiritual experience - they are having to replace inspiration with perspiration – hard work - studying and reading.
