Overload
Bradycardia - slow heart rate
Category: Illness or disabilities
Type
Involuntary
Introduction and description
Bradycardia is a condition in which the resting heart rate is under 60 beats per minute. It is not strictly speaking an illness until it causes unwelcome symptoms and is seldom symptomatic until the rate drops below 50 beat/min.
Trained athletes or young healthy individuals, for example, may have a slow resting heart rate. About 50 - 85 percent of conditioned athletes have ‘benign sinus bradycardia’.
Professional cyclist Miguel Indurain had a resting heart rate of 28 beats per minute.
Symptoms
If the individual has no symptoms, he or she is considered ‘normal’ but if he or she is suffering from fatigue, weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, chest discomfort, palpitations or shortness of breath there is something to worry about.
Once these symptoms appear, then the medical community start to get concerned, because it may cause cardiac arrest. These symptoms indicate there may not be enough oxygen getting to the heart or the brain. If severe it can result in death.
But it can also give you a spiritual experience of a very profound nature, via Hypoxia.
Causes
The heart is both an organ in its own right and a muscle, thus the causes of any problem may be organ related or muscle related. It may even be a nervous system disease, if the heart nerves are damaged or being affected by radiation for example. Thus to get the cause you need to look at:
Treatment
Symptom based medicine - The person may be given a pacemaker if the problems are heart related or drugs such as atropine or epinephrine if it is not heart related.
Cause based medicine - find the cause, the sections above provide some pointers.
How it works
Why do people get spiritual experiences from bradycardia? There can be some quite profound experiences from this ailment, as Sylvan Muldoon found out, he went out of body quite frequently. The principle cause appears to be Hypoxia.
