Lyall Watson – The Water Planet
The wells and pools and fountains of the world are places of solace and veneration, inhabited by gentle nymphs and water maidens. The homes of the Naiads, Potamids, and Crenae; who are essentially benevolent, weaving and spinning, blessed with the gift of prophecy, which can be purchased by the offering of a needle or a coin. Hence the many wishing wells. All places of pilgrimage and worship, paved with special stone, adorned by a sacred rock or carving, surrounded by plants with magical properties. They have their own power as well as a special melancholy, and most stand today at the heart of a shrine or parish, or mark the boundary of tribal territories and medieval counties
