Poems of Tulsidas - translated by Professor John Stratton Hawley
River of the gods, the act of recalling you
snuffs out sin and the threefold fire.
You wend across the earth like a desire-fulfilling vine
flowering with transports of gladness
And shine, filled with the fluid of undying life,
like the white shining current of the moon.
Your waves, unsullied, glisten and shimmer
like the deeds that are done by Raghuvar.
Oh Ganges, mother of the world, without you
what in this age of destruction can be done!
And how can Tulsi ever cross life's ocean-
that terrible, shoreless sea?
