A description of the experience
As quoted in Gabriel Delanne - Materials for use in the study of Reincarnation
This is one of two cases that I reported in brief to the London Congress of 1898; I took them from Mr. Dassier. The text does not allow me to know whether we are dealing with manifestations of posthumous or living animals.
L. Dassier reports the testimony of a farmer who, on returning home at a relatively late hour of the night, saw a donkey grazing in an oat field. He wanted to protect this field from such an unwelcome host.
The donkey let itself be approached, the farmer took it out of the field and brought it without resistance. He thus arrived at the stable door, but as he was about to open it, the animal disappeared in his hands like a shadow that vanished. No matter how much he looked around for it, he couldn’t find anything.
Frightened, he rushed home and woke up his brother to tell him about the adventure. The next day they went into the field to find out if such an extraordinary being had caused great damage and found the harvest intact. The mysterious animal was grazing an imaginary oatmeal. The night was clear enough for the farmer to be able to see the trees and bushes clearly several metres off the road.
