A description of the experience
The Art of Dying – Drs Peter and Elizabeth Fenwick
Mrs Cathy Holmes was sitting with her brother at her mother's bedside when she died:
I then felt a flapping of air around me and actually physically felt wind moving on my face and arms. It was as if a fan had suddenly been turned on, so I looked around me and up to the ceiling to see if this was the case. There was no fan to be seen. It was just after this experience that my mother died. After describing this to my own vicar, he told me that it was the angels coming to get my mother. My vicar has a great belief in the power of angels.
I know I physically felt something, even though there was nothing around me that could have given me the rush of air to my face. In fact, I remember moving my hand across my face a number of times as it felt as if something was moving there. I have an open mind about what my vicar said, although I also believe in angels. I know this experience has made me feel at peace with my mother’s passing, as I feel it could have been as my vicar said, or it could have been my mother's spirit leaving her earthly body.
