One young man related a story that occurred during a near-accident on the freeway. As a truck veered toward his car, he had a flash of pure panic as he realized that he had nowhere to go to get out of its way because of the heavy freeway traffic. It flashed through his mind that he was much too young to be dying this way.
In the next moment, he had a feeling of absolute calm and peace as he realized that he was a soul that had existed before this lifetime and that would exist after this body had died. He felt surrounded by God and at perfect peace about whatever was about to happen.
The truck swerved back into its lane just in time to avoid hitting his car and there was not an accident. However, this young man's life was quite changed. Since that episode, he has had an entirely new view of life. He doesn't take the "small" things of life so seriously; for him, life is a long stretch of time that doesn't include just his years here on Earth in his present body. He feels that he gets more joy out of life as a result of the experience. Certainly his spiritual awakening resulted in many of the changes that are seen in the lives of people who have had NDEs.
