Immortality and Reincarnation – Alexandra David-Neel
‘Breath’ mastery gradually leads to the state of samadhi, which is its ultimate result. Among the Taoists it includes a cosmic sense concerning the production and transformation of cosmic value, which is to say, emancipation from cosmic energy loss and access to the highest degrees of psychic power which in turn leads to immortality.
Breath (in this meaning of the term) ought not to be strictly interpreted as the physiological functioning of respiration. Breath is the supreme reality, the intrinsic movement, and the creative power.
Through the exercising of this little mortal breath and elevating it to the necessary level, one can transform that which is imperfect, coarse, and imperfect in oneself into something that is pure and immortal.
All of these exercises require one to advance prudently and under the direction of a competent guide.
These practices use two potent cosmic forces: Putting them into play can produce results that are much worse than simple failure if the necessary balance between them is not maintained.
