Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
At one time out-of-body experiences seem as though they were so common, that they were regarded by mystics as ‘usual’ and thus not what was being aimed in terms of the spiritual path………….
A description of the experience
Shihabudin Yahya Suhrawardi – Book of Conversations [translated by Henry Corbin and Nancy Pearson
As for the fact of walking on water, gliding through the air, reaching heaven, seeing the earth roll up like a carpet, these are experiences known to a certain number of mystics, provided that the Light which reaches them is created by the column of dawn in the cities of the intermediate Orient. To be sure, all this can be met with on the way followed by the mystics. Those among them who are still moderately advanced stop at that point, but the perfected ones attach no importance to it. At all events, we know no one in the sect of the Peripatetics who has ever had a solid foundation in theosophical wisdom, I mean, in the science of the pure Lights.
