Rudolf Steiner – How to Know Higher Worlds
Just as a man can divert his attention from something in front of him so that it is simply not there for him, the clairvoyant can eliminate a physical body altogether from his field of observation so that it becomes physically transparent to him. If he applies this faculty to some person standing before him, the so-called etheric body remains visible to his eyes of soul, as well as the soul-body which is larger than the other two and permeates them both. The etheric body has approximately the size and form of the physical body, so that it occupies virtually the same space. It is an extremely fine and delicately organised structure. Its basic colour is different from the seven colours contained in the rainbow.
Anyone able to observe it will detect a colour that is actually non-existent for sense-perception and can best be compared to the colour of young peach-blossom. If it is desired to study the etheric body, the soul-body too must be eliminated from observation by an exercise of attentiveness….. Otherwise the picture presented by the etheric body will be changed through its permeation by the soul-body.
