Rudolf Steiner – Nature Spirits
In the element of air and warmth live the beings which an earlier clairvoyant faculty designated as the sylphs. Because air is everywhere imbued with light, these sylphs which live in the element of air and warmth, press towards the light... they are particularly susceptible to the finer but larger movements within the atmosphere.

If we seek a meaning as to the laws of nature in the things of the world perceptible to our senses, we should be able to interpret the meaning as the imprint of the planetary spirit on the sense world … the sense world itself is a ‘semblance’, for it is what the etheric body of the earth, the substance of the nature spirits, drives out of itself.
