Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
The Maruts (Sanskrit: मरुत), are ‘storm deities’ and attendants of Indra. They are described as armed with golden lightning and thunderbolts, as having iron teeth and roaring like lions, as residing in the north, and as riding in golden chariots drawn by ruddy horses. In effect they are personifications of the kundalini experience and their number tends to indicate the strength of the experience
A description of the experience
Samavedas – Book 02 Chapter 02, VII Maruts
So mayst thou verily be seen coming with fearless Indra
both of equal splendour
bringing bliss!
Therefore they, as is their wont
resumed the state of new-born babes
Taking their sacrificial name
Thou Indra, with the rapid gods who shatter even what is firm,
Even in the cave didst find the cows
