Background
A description of the experience
Physical bridges take on the symbolism of bridges. They are the link between the physical and spiritual realm – the mundane and the sacred.
Numerous bridges exist which have no obvious use other than to link sacred places. Any bridge - physical bridge - that lies on a straight path and links sacred places is thus a potential part of the sacred geography.
The way the bridge has been built may also have symbolic meaning as it can convey the firmness and security or effectiveness of the bridge that is being represented – wide [easily traversed] or narrow [not easy], narrow with no parapets and over a long drop [dangerous ] and so on.
