Background
A description of the experience
from Fate Magazine - June, 1960
Ruth had entered a Texas hospital to have an appendectomy in 1936. After a short recuperation she was ready to be dismissed from the hospital but she suffered a haemorrhage and fell into unconsciousness:
I found myself in a strange place, a land of indescribable beauty, unlike any place I had ever known. It was a land of green meadows and blossoming trees; the air was softly sweet and fragrant and diffused with a rosy glow. All about me was the most glorious music – muted rapturous harmony. I felt supremely happy, exalted, compIete.
Then I saw across a stream the figures of my husband and children and knew I must go back to them.
She then recovered consciousness.
