Rosalind Heywood – The Infinite Hive
This dream is from The Hidden Springs by Renee Haynes.
In the late thirties a friend of hers went to a literary party in London at which he was so upset by a violent quarrel about the rights and wrongs of the Spanish Civil War that he left early and went home to bed. For a long time he was too restless to sleep and when at last he dropped off he dreamt that his little cat Mitzi, who lived at his country home, rushed in dressed in Spanish uniform with her ear half torn off. She was screaming miserably, 'Kill me, kill me, I can't stand it!'
Being a dream, of course, it was quite natural for poor Mitzi to speak.
Her master woke in a cold sweat and looked at the time. It was about 4 am. Later that morning his housekeeper telephoned from the country to say that about 4 am the real Mitzi had come in screaming, with her ear half torn off, and had rushed up to his pillow where she was still lying, still screaming.
It is easy enough here to separate the ESP about Mitzi from the emotional origin of the Spanish uniform, but unfortunately such entanglement is not always so obvious nor the ESP so easy to confirm.
