David Scott Rogo - Leaving the Body: A Complete Guide to Astral Projection
One of the OBE's most fundamental values is what it teaches about our minds and our spiritual nature. As with so many others who have left the body, I share the view that the OBE is a literal "rehearsal" for death, an experience that actively demonstrates the principle of personal immortality.
It is not by mere linguistic fancy that the OBE voyages of the shamans are called "flights of the soul." They show us that some part of the mind and personality can function independently of the body and might well survive it. The out-of-body state seems so much more vivid, primal, and real than existence in the physical world that many people who have left look back upon their bodies with total indifference.
And not even the most skeptical psychologist or parapsychologist would deny that a person who has had an OBE adopts a new attitude toward death itself.
This is especially true of individuals who have had OBEs during heart attacks or while confronting other life-threatening situations.
