Unconfirmed
He always insisted on that great gleam.
I touch it - he says - not only do I see it . I don't see it,
I touch it only, I have it, I am it. And as it grew dark
and the room, the tables, the trays became indistinct,
the sea-scapes, the grandfather clock, our faces,
he really gleamed on his chair,
his chair with its four legs also gleamed
as if resting on a cloud. 'We made as if
to touch him to confirm. But we did not dare
get up from our seats because we were leaning
over the top steps of a staircase without steps,
a very high staircase we had not climbed.
