Premonitions: A leap in to the future – Herbert Greenhouse [1971]
Lady Rhys-Williams of London was a professional woman with a keen interest in government and social welfare. She held several important posts and was an economist.
On January 17, 1964, Lady Rhys-Williams turned on her radio at 4 a.m. and heard a Voice of America broadcast. The news was disturbing. There had been riots in Atlanta, Georgia, with fighting between members of the Ku Klux Klan and a crowd of blacks. According to the account, the police arrived and charged into the crowd.
There were many injuries and several arrests were made.
Later in the morning she told her daughter about the broadcast, but there was no mention of the riots in the newspapers that day, nor on the following day, January 18th . More than a week later, on January 26th , Lady Rhys-Williams heard a BBC announcement at 8 p.m that riots had broken out in Atlanta. The next day several newspapers featured articles about the rioting.
Puzzled, Lady Rhys-Williams wrote to the voice of America and received a copy of the New York Times of January 19th , describing the scene in Atlanta as she had heard it on January 17th .
The riots had occurred on the evening of January 18th , about forty-eight hours after Lady Rhys-Williams had “heard" the Voice of America broadcast. There had indeed been a broadcast about the riots, but at a much later time.
With her concern about social problems, it is possible that Lady Rhys-Williams sensed that the riots would break out, then pre-heard the Voice of America account.
