Religious Experience Research Centre- Archive experience 725 – A peace that passeth all understanding
I had what I can only describe as an experience of utter and complete happiness as a small child of about 7 or 8 years old. I was away from school having had one of the usual child hood illnesses, but being well enough to go out was sat on the doorstep of our cottage situated part way up Greenhow Hill in Nidderdale, Yorkshire.
The local farmer had left me a little bottle of school milk before taking the rest down to the school. I t was a dull day but warmish; as I drank the milk I looked up in the direction of a farm on the top of the next hill and a feeling of complete peace descended upon me – I felt it was from God. ... If I am ever troubled by anything I can cast my mind back to this experience to feel spiritually refreshed.’
