The Mystery of the Human Double – Ralph Shirley
Here [is] an instance of a different sort recorded under the head of "accidental mystical phenomena" in a Catholic volume by Monseigneur Albert Farges, Doctor of Philosophy and Theology, translated by S. P. Jacques. They have relation to a noted Parisian clairvoyante, Mlle. C-, whose claims were investigated by a commission appointed by the French Societe des Sciences Psychiques.
It appears that an officer had died in the town of Montpelier and, as happens not infrequently in France, he had put away his possessions, including title deeds, etc., in a secret hiding-place which his heirs were unable to discover. One of them, faced with this difficulty, decided to consult the Parisian clairvoyante.
Mlle. C., after asking for the most minute details, including the name of the street, number of the house, description of the rooms, etc., entered into her trance condition, and made what is termed in the record a mental journey to Montpelier.
After some hesitation (according to her own account) she reached the town and street notified, stopped at the number mentioned, went upstairs, identified the rooms described and, entering one of them, raised the curtains of the bed place in the wall, looked into it and discovered there the missing title deeds, together with a 100-franc gold piece, which the uncle had treasured and had previously shown to his nephews.
The nephew, acting on the clairvoyante's instruction, went to Montpelier and found the deeds and the 100-franc piece in the spot where Mlle. C. had stated that they were.
