Background
Black pepper contains piperine and piperine is a potentiator of other chemicals.
If we just look at the effect piperine has on curcumin - one of the major chemicals in turmeric – it can enhance its bioavailability by 2000% in humans!
It is important to understand that this is true of a whole range of chemicals, from vitamins to minerals, making black pepper both immensely useful and immensely dangerous. Piperine can dramatically increase the absorption, for example, of selenium, vitamin B and beta-carotene as well as other nutrients.
So drinking black pepper tea should - if the diet is right - help to increase absorption of needed minerals and vitamins.
Why do you sweat after having a peppery meal? The answer is that Piperine present in black pepper acts as a thermogenic compound. Thermogenesis is the process of heat production in organisms. Sweating helps to remove pathogens and toxins.
The need for hygiene and that one caught bugs from other people is now well known, but it was novel in Wesley's day.
A description of the experience
I.
1. The air we breathe is of great consequence to our health. Those who have been long abroad in easterly or northerly winds should drink some warm pepper tea on going to bed, or a draught of toast and water.
2. Tender people should have those who lie with them, or are much about them, sound, sweet, and healthy.
3. Everyone that would preserve health should be as clean and sweet as possible in their houses, clothes, and furniture.
