The Healing power of herbs – Ceres Esplan
Pipsissewa (Chimaphila umbellate), Prince’s pine, Rheumatism weed, Love-in-winter, Ground holly, Spotted wintergreen.
It can easily be guessed from this plant’s name that it originated as a helpful herb among North American Indians, who have provided modern herbalists all over the world with so many wonderful remedies. It can be obtained already dried, ready to be made into a tea.
As Pipsissewa bark is used, this tea has to be decocted, not infused; that is boiled according to the directions given on the packet.
It is a diuretic, but it is also a good herb to use as an alterative and a tonic. Sufferers from cystitis find it soothing if their urine is acid and tends to burn when it is being passed.
Scientists hope that Pipsissewa may prove to be a helpful plant for diabetics, but as far as I know, this has not yet been proved
