Background
A description of the experience
Peitho
I walked a stony beach in glaring June,
and trod where Aphrodite misbehaves.
Finding on that sensuous afternoon
a treasure trove among the crashing waves,
I gathered all the shellfish I could find
and took them home to polish and admire.
Each one seemed by a mighty God designed,
forged with passion in a gentle fire.
I picked what seemed to be a perfect shell,
all golden burnished, lip-sealed tight and proud,
and prised it open: broke its timeless spell.
Unwittingly I wove its deathly shroud.
And though within, persuasive Peitho's form
lay sleeping, soon would rise the Titan's ire.
Let Eos lay her brilliance to the storm,
with morning's calm to quench my latent fire
