Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
from guide book
"The palace with its tower provides the unifying focus of the entire central area of Palenque. The structure may have been an administrative centre as well a residence for the elite because steam baths and benches have been discovered in the south eastern section of the building.
Constructed and renovated over a 200 year period, the palace carvings and structures result from projects of Pacal as well as his successors. Much of the stucco decoration that covered the exterior and interior walls has disappeared having disintegated or been looted by explorers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Fortunately carvings remain scattered throughout the complex"
