“Large doses of myristica fragrans [nutmeg] can cause vomiting, flushing, dry mouth, tachycardia, CNS stimulation possibly with epileptiform convulsions, miosis, mydriasis, and hallucinations.
Nutmeg is sometimes abused for its hallucinogenic potential; ingestion of less than one tablespoon can be enough to produce severe symptoms similar to those seen in anticholinergic poisoning.
The essential oil contains the mutagenic and animal carcinogenic compound safrole”
