A nitrovasodilator is a pharmaceutical agent that causes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) by donation of nitric oxide (NO), and is mostly used for the treatment of angina pectoris and hypertensive crises. They can also be used in acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and for lowering of blood pressure during surgery. Hallucinations are most often caused by resulting hypotension as the vessels very suddenly widen.
