The Wisdom of Near-Death Experiences – Dr Penny Sartori
The NDE appears to remain etched in the person's mind. Even many years after the NDE it is very vivid, as if it had just happened the day before. I have spoken to people in their eighties and nineties who had had NDEs over 50 years previously, but it remains foremost in their mind. The account below was sent to me anonymously in response to a newspaper article:
After reading your reports about NDEs in the newspaper, I feel you might like to hear about mine. This happened when I was a young teenager. I am now over 90. Although I tried to think it was a dream it has remained very vivid in my memory. I was rushed into hospital with acute appendicitis. In those days the anaesthetic used was chloroform. A most unpleasant smell which soon knocked me out.
I then felt myself being pushed into a long dark tunnel with a tiny speck of light which seemed a long distance away. It was a horrible journey, I could not resist. As I travelled, the light grew bigger until it became so strong it dazzled me. At that point I shot out of the tunnel to be faced by a gleaming golden gate. A man wearing a long white robe stood there. He had a beard and the most gentle yet radiant face I had ever seen. I looked through the gate and saw my grandparents and others who had passed on. They seemed to be behind a cloud. I could only see them from the waist upwards. They had such a look of peace and happiness on their faces and there was an indescribable peace around me. I pleaded with the man to let me in. How I longed to join them but all he said was, 'No, not yet'. As I pleaded, he raised a flat hand towards me, saying, no not yet. I felt myself being sucked into the tunnel in tears. The light grew less until it was just a Pin point and I fell out of the tunnel. I heard voices and found myself surrounded with beds and a very bad pain in my tummy. It took a while to shake of my confusion.
Since my NDE I have no fear of death. I do not wish to have my name published because a lot of people here would say I am demented. Nevertheless those magical moments will live with me forever. Thank you for your work.
