Respect and love can also be seen superficially in such relations as those between husband and wife where the benefits are not trivial.
The original meaning is that the various buddhas love sentient beings, and sentient beings have faith in the buddhas. This establishes master (buddhas and bodhisattvas) and servant (sentient beings), mollifies the minds of sentient beings, and leads them into the buddha-realm. AII of this occurs in accordance with the gate of the buddhas' compassion.
Thus, the Shingon masters must also possess compassion and wisdom, and fundamentals do not get lost and confused. (This is the skillful means of the secret dharma of respect, love, and the like of the Shingon.)
One can also lead them in if one has carefully grasped in one's mind the prayers of respect and love in this world. (If one fulfills the wishes of sentient beings in this world, then in the end one can lead them into the buddha-realm.)
How can it be otherwise?
(Unless this were the case, they would deteriorate to the point of being stained only by the love of [this] samsaric [world], and the time of their emergence [out of samsara] would grow ever farther away; one should carefully secure this in one's mind.)
