A description of the experience
From Shingon Refractions – Professor Mark Unno
With the all-inclusive cosmologies of the Shingon and Kegon with Mahavairocana as the center, circumference, and everything in between, as it were, virtually any celestial deity could infuse Myoe with its mystic power, empowering him with a charisma that transcended this world.
I, a foolish monk, have been deeply fond of actual practice since my youth, and make nothing of floating splendour. Sometimes going deep into the mountains, sometimes living by the seashore, I made the wind in the pines my friend in meditation, and the bright moon a lamp for recitation. With flowing sweat and strings of tears, alone I recited, alone I practiced. To Manjusri I turned and asked for wisdom and understanding; on Samantabhadra I relied in seeking practice.... By the majesty of Maitreya Bodhisattva I regard him as my teacher of meditation.
