Jenny Randles – Supernatural Pennines
The experience of numerous small tremors in the Pennines (often too small to be noticed) shows the … extreme of the same effect. Here the strain gradually leaks over a long time and the energy is transformed not into destruction but into glowing effects in the atmosphere. As we saw in April 1982 with the Craven Fault, replace this gradual leakage with a sudden slip and an earthquake may stop these lights.
This poses a fascinating question about the earth energies which apparently power the strange phenomena in the skies above the Pennines….. leaking energy that creates ongoing atmospheric ionisation
The small village of Appletreewick is on the moors north of Skipton and Ilkley and is surrounded by many strange events (the light effects often seen to the west of Menwith Hill are close by). It sits right on the Craven Fault.
Nigel Mortimer… found countless relevant stories. Researcher Alec Macellan, for instance, had claimed to hear a strange rumbling and see a green glow rising from rocks inside a disused mine less than a mile away. Local legends tell of a monster with glowing red eyes (the barguest) that roams the moors. And most specifically there were sightings of orange light phenomena … from a camp site in the valley below the hill slope
