The observation was published seven years ago, when Marie de Vigouroux described the intensity of her sensations in a striking way.
She was a patient... who had to have her leg amputated to the thigh. She felt tired, bruised, but had no awareness of any change that had occurred to her. It was only the next day when her mother came to visit her, that she was told that when she fell, she had broken her leg and had had to have it cut off to her thigh.
She remembers that the announcement of this unfortunate news surprised her rather than shocked her, because the illusion of her leg was perfect. When, a few days later, she was lifted to Sainte-Anne, she was not aware of her mutilation and, wanting to get up alone from her bed, she rolled onto the ground. Eighteen months later, she still falls in moments of distraction, wanting to walk without her appliance.
