A description of the experience
SHADOW LAND OR LIGHT FROM THE OTHER SIDE by Elisabeth d’Esperance(1897)
Unconsciously to ourselves, or perhaps intuitively, not knowing why, we had adopted many of the means necessary to success, and the result seemed to warrant the idea, that we had only to set our energies to work in order to obtain anything we wanted in the way of phenomena.
How these things were produced was a matter we did not profess to understand. We knew that the presence of some persons was favorable, and that of others was not, and that extremes of weather were not good.
A thunderstorm was inimical and a certain preventative of good results, but beyond these most elementary rules I do not think we had gained any positive knowledge. We were feeling our way blindly and, the success we had was apparently more owing to a series of lucky accidents, than to a scientific knowledge of what was required to bring it about.
