Background
All of the following can be achieved via inter composer communication. He is not communicating with the dead, he is reading his friends' perceptions of dead people they knew. Luckily he realised the futility of reading someone's mind and went back to his healing
A description of the experience
The Reluctant healer – William J Macmillan
To my absolute disgust, I found that I could do automatic writing as easily as I could sit down and take up a pencil. Even worse, these writings were not nonsense. They were usually dicta of wisdom such as one finds in the Analects of Confucius. Vera was thrilled and triumphant. Also I found that without use of trance I could naturally and easily contact – apparently - those who had died if I were asked to do so. These experiments were confined to close personal friends. From the wealth and accuracy of detail which I was able to produce, these friends were convinced I had indeed talked to their friends and relatives. These entities I saw as being vividly alive, dressed in normal clothes and in full colour. There was nothing even faintly ghost-like in the contact. Unless I were informed afterwards that the person was dead I should have thought a trick of mental telepathy had been performed enabling me to see a living person.
Also I found that I could often pick up strong mental images latent in a person's mind. I could describe with absolute accuracy visual details of house or garden, which were familiar to them but unknown to me. These pictures were always in full colour. They began in my mind in a mist which gradually cleared. The first definite outlines were grey and I knew the physical plan of a room before I could actually see it. Once I had established the doors and windows, pieces of furniture became first shadows then finally the whole room was furnished in its natural colours. Even such detail as carpet patterns and the fabric of the curtains were clearly seen. For a while these experiments were rather fun, but as I could see no useful purpose ever emerging from them I became too bored to do them.
