T C Lethbridge – The Power of the Pendulum
13 March 1970. I woke at 6.30 hot and damp. Mina was still fast asleep. I got out of bed and went to the chair near the end of her bed on which were my day clothes and her long dressing gown. I pulled off my damp things and, knowing that she would soon need it, put her dressing gown on her feet, before pulling on a dry day shirt. At once, and without waking up, she called in an urgent voice: 'Take the things off my feet.' I was struggling into my shirt in the dark. She repeated the call. I snatched the dressing gown off her feet. It is lighter than my shirt (being 1 lb 2 oz.);in fact it seemed almost weightless. She called out a third time before I could get my shirt on. I got back to bed and waited till she woke up a quarter of an hour later.
Then she told me that in her sleep she had felt a considerable weight being put on her feet and thought it was all my day clothes with several heavy things in the pockets (my knife alone weighs half a pound).
The importance of this lies in the sensation of weight. When she woke fully, my wife tested in bed the feeling of the dressing gown on her toes. She could just tell that there was something there. Asleep, that something was heavy and uncomfortable. If, as I think, there is a difference of four times in the rate of vibration between the two mental levels, the abnormality experienced in the weight is explained. On the verge of waking, my wife suddenly felt something weighing 4 1/2lbs put on her feet, because her mind was really on the second level and the object was on the earth one.
