A description of the experience

B J Laubscher – Where Mystery dwells

Mrs. Ada Donnelly of Johannesburg described her premonition of her mother's death which included a vision of words.

One evening while going from Johannesburg to Klerksdorp she and her husband decided to stop at her mother's place in Potchefstroom because, being Mothers' Day, she had bought her a special cake. When she entered her mother's room the old lady was in bed reading her Bible; she was dressed all in white, also the bedclothes appeared spotlessly white, and while looking at her mother she saw written across her face the words '-“The peace that passeth all understanding." At this she drew back.

Naturally the experience was disturbing, uncanny and unexpected.

Her mother however noticed her reaction and said :-"Come in Ada, what is the matter?" That evening on the way home she told her husband what she had seen and added that she knew her mother would not spend Christmas with them as arranged, but would pass away. Her husband however considered her suspicions unfounded. But in spite of his dismissal of her fears she felt so convinced that she made arrangements for her sister's child to stay with her granny. Then came the day they were to fetch her mother for her Christmas holiday but that forenoon a telegram came-

"Mother passed away this morning."
