The kut world is mature enough to absorb what is dark, deadly, absurd, skeptical, and almost senseless in human life and still find trust, stability, and multi-leveled harmony through contact with the gods. The gods and ancestors can be both caring and frightening; kut laughter can be both joyfully defiant and senseless. Tempered though it be with comic skepticism, the belief remains that the gods are with us.
