Science and the Spook by George Owen and Victor Sims
Miss Alison Westwood gave us her impressions as follows:
People always think of ghosts as sheets or heads under arms. I have seen nothing like that, but I can't deny that there is the oddest feeling about the place sometimes.
We had a black cat - I called her a witch's cat - which sometimes froze to the spot and howled like a dog. I was afraid that whatever frightened her might worry the horses as well – but they have so far been untroubled.
We are extremely happy and tranquil here but, just to play safe, we make a special point of saying "Hello" aloud to the house whenever we arrive home at night.
Some of the guests who visit Prior's Court are affected by the "atmosphere". A lady who is a Home Office psychologist, refuses to sleep in the bedroom which has a four-poster bed. And an American guest who tried to sleep there recently found that he could not relax, and sat up in bed all night smoking cigarettes. However, other guests find the room peaceful and enjoy sleeping there.
