A description of the experience
Rosalind Heywood – The Infinite Hive
In -September 1918, I learnt a little at first hand about ‘alterations of consciousness' for I achieved temporary fame by surviving a sharper attack of malignant malaria than anyone else had been known to do, and it gave me some knowledge of the morbid hallucinations of disease.
In my case, at least, the ghastly gorilla-like devils that leered at me out of an immense gold embossed Victorian frame, which hung mysteriously in the air without any support at the foot of my bed, were quite unlike the hallucinations which I later experienced spontaneously or under mescalin.
