Father Bernabe Cobo - Inca Religion and Customs [translated by Roland Hamilton]
The statues were made of thick mantles in such a way that they would stand up with no special device to hold them. Each had a band around its head. These bands were made of thick woool braids and wrapped tightly all around the head, the statues also had very large ear plugs like the ones worn by the Incas.
