A description of the experience
F W Clement – Nitrous Oxide Anaesthesia
A sense of warmth, well-being, or exhilaration occurs. The tongue feels thickened and the speech is gutteral. The touch and pressure senses are present, but sounds become distant and terminal nerve pain is abolished. Entrance into the excitement stage is indicated by a tendency to laugh, shout, sing, or to exhibit violent muscular movements. Loss of memory occurs early. Muscular power is lost gradually . . . the senses are lost one by one, hearing usually the last to go.
