On Friday Erik's 92 year old mother broke her hip. I've been at the hospital every day since then. On Saturday she was talking to all sorts of people who are long dead.
Maybe painkiller induced experiences, maybe not. We had been warned that considering her age and her heart problems the operation was dangerous. The experience made me consider that in spite of her strength she might not make it.
She is fine now, but it was very special to see her so peaceful as she contacted the people from her past. Erik and I were both touched to share that experience with her and see her radiant and happy, laughing out loud as she chatted away to those people.
I think it is preparation for death even if the time may not be so close
