A description of the experience

A Casebook of Otherworldly Music – D Scott Rogo

Case No. 24 - Elsie Haines

Mrs. Haines's report (in a letter dated November 7, 1968, Surrey, Great Britain) is of considerable importance since it occurred when she was a child, which, as we have noted with OOBEs, is a strong indication of the validity of the phenomenon:

I am delighted to say that I had a wonderful experience of waking up to the sound of full orchestra and very loud choir music when I was only about twelve years old.   I had overslept on a Saturday morning (1921) and it was about l0 a.m. I felt very shocked and went to the window still hearing the music and saw that there was nothing such as the Salvation Army, which sometimes passed my home on Sunday. I realized then that it was coming from Heaven.  This happened in 1921. We did not have a radio or even a Gramophone.

Mrs. Haines has also stated having heard this during a period of depression over her cat's illness, on subsequent inquiry, Mrs. Haines informed me that, while she definitely "heard" the music, it did seem to envelop her. The experience, which lasted five minutes, was intuitively thought to be of a religious nature.
