A description of the experience
THE GORDON WILSON LECTURE - NUTRITIONAL DISEASES OF THE NERVIOUS SYSTEM IN THE ALCOHOLIC PATIENT - RAYMOND D. ADAMS, M.D.; BOSTON
Alcoholic tremor refers to the coarse tremor that characterizes so many inveterate alcoholic patients. It involves mainly the hands, arms, and face, and occurs during action, either in the maintenance of posture or in volitional movement. It is abolished by relaxation. As a rule, it has its onset during a period of prolonged drinking and, once started, is always most pronounced in the morning after a period of sleep when levels of blood alcohol have fallen. It is greatly reduced or suppressed by the drinking of alcohol. After a longer period of abstinence in the heavy drinker, it becomes augmented and may then be accompanied by visual and auditory hallucinations, a generalized seizure or two, or the full picture of delirium tremens.
In Dr Adams study of patients he found hallucinations to be quite prevalent……….
