Third category - Cases in which personal consciousness is transferred to the phantom.
Case IX. - I take it from the Light (1903, p. 34). It refers to a feeling of duplication that occurs following chloroform inhalations. Dr. George Wyld describes it this way:
"One day in 1874, I decided to breathe chloroform to avoid the intense suffering caused by the passage of a kidney stone. The pain had stopped abruptly, and I suddenly saw myself transported in "animic form" to 6 or 7 feet from the bed where my body was lying, inert, watching it.
This feeling lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to convince me to have witnessed the separation of my psychic form from the body.
I told other chloroform doctors about my experience, who agreed that they had frequently heard their clients mention similar experiences. I went to the hospital for tooth diseases, and there I had other confirmations of the thing. But all agreed that such experiences should be considered as mere illusions.
I didn't, because I now knew and knew for sure that these were real facts..."
