Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
One of the major forms of spiritual experience is nirvana or moksha - union with your Higher spirit.
The ultimate is total annihilation of the will.
In union, however, you join with your Higher spirit and this is ritualistically known in all cultures as the spiritual marriage.
This is what is being described in the Chemical wedding of Christian Rosenkreuntz. It is clear that the Dionysian rites led to these forms of union and they were celebrated by the initiate donning ‘bridal clothes’ and becoming a ‘bride’ as we can see here in the fresco from the Villa of Mysteries.
She even has a wedding ring on, symbolising the union.
