A description of the experience

Dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers

are used to reduce systemic vascular resistance and arterial pressure, but are not generally  used to treat angina because the vasodilation and hypotension can lead to reflex tachycardia

Drugs with a record of hallucinations are: 

  • Amlodipine  [this has a separate observation] (as besylate,  mesylate or maleate) is a long-acting calcium channel blocker (dihydropyridine class) marketed under the brand name of Norvasc
  • Amlodipine/benazepril, marketed in the U.S. as Lotrel  , is an antihypertensive medication which combines a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine besilate) with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (benazepril).
  • Felodipine (Plendil)  -  
  • Nicardipine (Cardene, Carden SR)
  • Nifedipine  - brand names Adalat [see separate observation], Nifediac, Nifedical, and Procardia .
