A description of the experience
As quoted in Gabriel Delanne - Materials for use in the study of Reincarnation
Let us add that, according to me, attention must still be brought to the table so that a sensation that enters us becomes conscious. It is well known, in fact, that if we are absorbed by interesting work, we will no longer hear the sound of the clock, which nevertheless always strikes our ears with the same intensity. But our mind, busy with other things, does not transform this sensory signal into perception, that is, we are not aware of it.
It is very curious to observe that these sensations unnoticed by the normal self can reappear if the subject is immersed in magnetic sleep. Here is an example, taken from Desseoir:
Mr. X..., absorbed by reading among chatting friends, suddenly had his attention awakened when he heard his name being pronounced. He asked his friends what had been said about him. They did not answer him; they hypnotized him. In his sleep he was able to repeat all the conversation that had escaped his awakened self. Even more remarkable is the fact pointed out by Edmond Gurney and other observers that the hypnotic subject can grasp the whispering of his magnetizer, even when he is in the middle of people talking aloud.
