Canto VII
'There' said the shadow 'let us go in there
Where the mountain makes a lap for us
And there we will await the new day'.
Between steep and level was a crooked path
Which led us along the border of that hollow
Where the edge more than half died away
Gold and fine silver, cochineal and white lead
Indigo, and brightly polished wood
Fresh emerald at the moment it is split
Would all of them, be outshone by the colour
Of the grass and flowers growing in that hollow
As the lesser is always outshone by the greater
Not only had nature put colours there
But of the sweetness of a thousand odours
Made there a single vague and unknown scent..........
